Swiss Turning Capabilities at Pacific Precision
We have 14 CNC Swiss Screw Machines ranging up to 1.25 inches (32 mm) in diameter, allowing us to handle any volume of machining for small and complex items.
Swiss turning, also commonly known as Swiss screw machining, differs from more traditional lathe operations. Where a standard lathe holds the workpiece at one or both ends and applies the tool to cut away material, a Swiss turning machine uses a guide bushing to guide the mounted cutting tools. The spinning workpiece emerges or recedes from the guide bushing as needed, allowing cutting tools to perform highly precise cuts with minimal force. Swiss machines can also perform multiple operations simultaneously for more cost-effective machining.
Swiss turning is an ideal process for high-volume production of extraordinarily complex small parts. The additional support provided by the guide bushing mitigates vibration that may interfere with precise cuts on standard lathes. CNC Swiss turning machines are fully automated for continuous operation and can accommodate high production volumes.
At Pacific Precision, our Swiss machining capabilities include:
- Repeatable tolerances within ± .0002”
- Lights Out production
- Low-to-high production volumes
- Short lead times due to the ability to run unattended
